Indoor Track Recap: Cuthbertson dominates 4A, East Burke boys win 1A/2A, 8 3A champs

The dynasty continues.

Cuthbertson repeated as NCHSAA 4A boys and girls state indoor track champions Saturday, with the girls being pushed by Olympic.

Olympic produced two state champions. Its 1,600-meter girls relay team won and long jumper Jahalia Wright claimed the 4A title.

The Cuthbertson girls were led by Charlotte Bell’s all-classification meet record in the 1,600 meters (4:45.19). Marvin Ridge’s Aria Wegh was named most outstanding performer of the girls meet. She won the 55-meter hurdles and finished second in the high jump, 55-meter dash and the 300-meters.

The Cuthbertson boys only won one event, the 1,600-meter relay.

East Burke boys win first 1A/2A state title

Swain County repeated as girls 1A/2A state champs but East Burke beat Union Academy by five points to win its first boys state title.

Former Harding star Akala Garrett was named girls MVP. She met meet records in the 55-meter hurdles and the 500-meters. She also won the 300 meters.

Eight Observer-area athletes won championships at the N.C. 3A indoor state track championships in Winston-Salem on Friday night.
