Talking Preps: The NCHSAA Elite 8 preview show; Mr. and Ms. Basketball finalists named
A new Talking Preps is on tap for Monday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. (replays after). On tap:
▪ We have a statewide preview, East and West, of Tuesday’s N.C. High School Athletic Association state quarterfinals, and there’s a spirited debate about styles of play and who’s going to win. Alex also has some history to reveal about Durham Jordan’s run in the eastern 4A playoffs.
▪ We review Saturday’s N.C. private school state championships, and hear from a couple coaches. And with six of eight remaining 4A boys and girls teams from the Charlotte-area, should Saturday’s regionals be here, too? We debate.
▪ Rick and Randall name the three boys and girls finalists for the N.C. player of the year award, Mr. and Ms. N.C. Basketball. The award will be handed out on next week’s show.
▪ Northside Christian state championship point guard Josh Bullock joins us to talk about the season, once playing with prep legend Mikey Williams and he’ll battle Randall on “The Game Show.”
▪ Sammy sits down with Chambers High star Nick Dorn, whose team has a state quarterfinal rematch at North Mecklenburg Tuesday.
▪ Randall highlights his “Rockstars,” the girls players of the week: Kate Sears, Watauga; Blanca Thomas, Charlotte Catholic; Nevaeh Farmer, North Mecklenburg; Lili Booker, Cannon School; and Lake Norman’s Kirsten Lewis-Williams, who joins us in the studio.
▪ Rick highlight’s his “Rick’s Picks,” the boys players of the week: Pat Tivnan, Charlotte Catholic; Josh Bullock, Northside Christian; Isaiah Evans, North Mecklenburg; Maurio Hanson, Chambers; Juke Harris, Salisbury; and West Charlotte’s Chadlyn Traylor, who joins us in studio.
▪ Chelsea sits down with Grace Christian’s Sarah Strong, who led her team to a state championship Saturday.
▪ And on “Coach vs. Coach,” Gary and Randall debate whether hosting regional semifinals at home sites is a good idea; should high school teams be allowed to advance the ball to half court late in games; and whether or not the high school product is better now than five years ago.
