Thursday’s HS Rewind: Charlotte Christian baseball gets big win, Sun Valley coach steps down
Charlotte Christian scored four times in the second inning Thursday and then held on for a 6-3 win at Charlotte Catholic.
Catholic added a special No. 42 decal on the back of their helmets to honor former Charlotte Christian coach Greg Simmons, who passed away earlier this year.
On Thursday, Christian’s Tanner McCammon was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Catholic’s Joey Hall had two hits.
Longtime Union County coach steps down, but not going far
Longtime Sun Valley boys basketball coach Keith Mason will not return next season, but he’s not going far.
Mason, 50, is going to focus on his role as the school’s athletic director, a position he began two years ago.
Mason took over the Sun Valley program before the 2007-08 season and finishes with a 233-171 record. His teams won two conference titles.

Charlotte Latin’s Evie McMahan scored six goals to lead the Hawks to a 12-11 win over Jackson (OH) High in girls lacrosse Wednesday.
Crawford Fisher had two goals for the Hawks, who also got two assists from Lea Troutman. Goalie Elle’ Collier had seven saves.

Tuesday’s Rewind: Butler stops East Meck, pulls into tie for first
Butler High moved into a first-place tie in the Southwestern 4A Tuesday with a 3-1 win over East Mecklenburg.
East Mecklenburg (5-5, 4-1) lost its second straight game and fell into a tie for first place with the Bulldogs (5-4, 4-1) and Charlotte Catholic (7-1, 4-1).
The Bulldogs allowed East Meck just two hits in the game. Butler’s Carson Carver was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the seventh.

Caleb Cloninger, North Gaston baseball: in a 7-2 win over Forestview, Cloninger threw six innings, allowed four hits, one earned run and struck out nine.
