Here are Thursday’s high school results in the greater Charlotte-area.

Taylor Barlow, South Mecklenburg softball: named MVP of the SoMECK conference tournament after leading her team to the title.

Nadia Bolden, South Mecklenburg girls soccer: scored four goals in an 9-0 win over Berry Academy.

Donovan Davis, Lincoln Charter baseball: go-head, two-run home run in an 11-9 win over Community School of Davidson is the Catawba Shores conference championship.

Case Gibbs, Providence Day: three-hit shutout in a 4-0 win over Covenant Day. In longtime coach Jim Cerbie’s final season, teh Chargers tied Covenant Day for the CISAA regular-season title.

Elektra Koulouris, Weddington girls lacrosse: six goals, assist and won 11-of-18 facebooks in a 18-3 win over Greensboro Page in the second round of the playoffs.

No. 2 seeds sweep Southwestern 4A tournaments

The No. 2 seeds swept the Southwestern 4A Conference’s tournament baseball and softball championships over the weekend.

Providence held off fourth seed East Mecklenburg 7-6 for the baseball title, while Independence blanked top-seeded Butler 4-0 in the softball finals.

East Mecklenburg, which beat baseball top seed Butler in the semifinals, did its best to win the championship.

The Eagles trailed 7-2 entering the seventh inning but scored four runs before Providence was able to get the third out.

Wood Gray led East Mecklenburg with a triple and three RBI. Luke Wolff had two hits and two RBI for the Panthers.

Providence Day 4, Covenant Day 0: Case Gibbs threw a three-hit shutout, and Bo Ziegler doubles and drove in two runs in this Friday night game.

Charlotte Country Day 2, Covenant Day 1: Losing this Saturday afternoon game prevented Covenant Day from winning the conference championship outright. Instead, the Lions tied with Providence Day for first place, each at 7-3. Country Day’s Owen Miller and Grant Gardner each had RBI hits.

Track and field

CATAWBA SHORES 1A-2A MEET

State powerhouse Mountain Island Charter swept the boys’ and girls’ team championships in the conference meet.

Boys’ scores: Mountain Island Charter 232, Christ the King 88, Community School of Davidson 81, Bradford Prep 73, Lincoln Charter 68, Pine Lake Prep 67, Langtree Charter 39.

Mountain Island Charter had three double-winners – Ian Harrison (long jump, triple jump), Reggie Daniel (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), and Benjamin Patton (100 and 200 dashes).

Community School of Davidson’s Daniel Ahearn won the 400 and 1,600 meters.

Girls’ scores: Mountain Island Charter 199, Christ the King 144.5, Community School of Davidson 128.5, Lincoln Charter 90, Pine Lake Prep 50, Langtree Charter 22, Bradford Prep 21.

Mountain Island Charter’s Aniya Hawkins won the 100 and 300 hurdles events, and teammate Jaida McGrew took the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

Pine Lake Prep’s Stefania Williams won the long jump and triple jump and finished third in the 100 hurdles.

Christ the King distance specialist Nicole Alfers won the 3,200 meters by nearly a minute and was second in the 1,600 meters.

Tyler Glover, Ardrey Kell girls track: won shot put and discus at the SoMECK championship.

Sterling Greene, Olympic boys track: won 100- and 200-meter dashes at SoMECK conference championship.

Miles Miller, Charlotte Latin baseball: home run, five RBIs in an 8-7 win over Cannon School.

Caleb Roesch, South Mecklenburg boys track: won 800 and 1,600-meter at the SoMECK finals and was fourth in the 3,200.

Olympic boys, Ardrey Kell girls win SoMECK titles

Olympic’s boys and Ardrey Kell’s girls won team championships Thursday in the SoMeck 4A track and field championships, held at Palisades High.

Ardrey Kell edged Myers Park for second place in the girls’ competition, while Olympic held off Myers Park for the runner-up spot among the girls.

Boys’ team scores: Olympic 165; Ardrey Kell 131; Myers Park 125; South Mecklenburg 89; Palisades 65; Berry Academy 47; Harding 29.

Olympic sprinter Sterling Greene swept the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Ardrey Kell got a big day from its standout hurdler, Xavier Branker, who captured both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles races and ran third in the 200-meter dash.

Myers Park’s Solomon Young won the shot put and the discus, and South Mecklenburg distance specialist Caleb Roesch ran first at 800 and 1,600 meters and was fourth in the 3,200-meter run.

Girls’ team scores: Ardrey Kell 203.5; Olympic 148; Myers Park 125; South Mecklenburg 89.5; Palisades 44; Berry Academy 37; Harding 8.

Ardrey Kell’s standout was Tyler Glover, who won both the shot put and discus.

Myers Park junior Mary Donner Dalton, one of the state’s top distance runners, took the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs. She won the 3,200 meters by 24 seconds over her nearest competitor.

Olympic’s I’Ja Walter swept the 100 and 200 meter sprints.

Palisades’ Carmen PenaSoto won one event, the 300 hurdles, but she was second in the 100 hurdles and the triple jump, and finished third in the long jump.

(4) East Mecklenburg 4, (1) Butler 2 (8 innings): The Eagles stunned the conference’s regular-season champion, as Brantley Truitt doubled and scored twice. Butler managed only two runs, despite having 12 base-runners during the contest.

Parkwood 13, North Davidson 4: Parkwood moved on to the Round of 16 in the 1A-2A-3A state playoffs and will face top-seeded Bishop McGuinness in the next round early next week.

Providence Day 17, Charlotte Christian 3: Marla Stuart led the Chargers with four goals and five assists.

St. Stephens 18, North Lincoln 5: The Knights’ season ended with a first-round 1A-2A-3A state playoff setback.

Wednesday’s #BIG5 Top Performers

Aaron Burchett, Mooresville baseball: three hits, two RBIs in a 10-8 win over Lake Norman in the Greater Metro 4A semifinals.

Anna Dew, Hickory Ridge softball: struck out 11 and allowed one hit in an 8-0 win over South Iredell.

Jacob Laney, Porter Ridge boys track: won 1,600-meters in 4:18.16 at the Southern Carolinas conference championship. It was one of the fastest times of the season.

Charlotte Simas, Myers Park girls soccer: four goals in a 10-0 win over Berry.

Lily Yampolsky, Lake Norman Charter girls track: won three events -- 400, 800 and 1,600-meter runs -- leading her team to victory at the South Piedmont 3A track meet.

Area teams dominate track meets

Cuthbertson, Mallard Creek and Hickory Ridge swept the boys’ and girls’ team championships Wednesday in conference meets, while the Northwest Cabarrus boys and the Lake Norman Charter girls were team champions in their conference track meet.

SOUTHERN CAROLINA 4A MEET

Cuthbertson, Weddington and Marvin Ridge, all traditional state powers, finished 1-2-3 in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions, held at Weddington High.

Boys’ team scores: Cuthbertson 192.25; Weddington 140.25; Marvin Ridge 93; Porter Ridge 76; Sun Valley 27.5; Piedmont 23.

Porter Ridge senior Jacob Laney, a strong contender to win the state title at 1,600 meters, captured that event in a time of four minutes 18.16 seconds. That was among the fastest metric mile times in the state this season.

Laney also won the 3,200 meters and was second at 800 meters.

Cuthbertson’s Reece Morgan won the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was second at 400 meters. And teammate Killian Fahy won at 400 meters, ran second in the 200 meters, and was third at 100 meters.

Girls’ team scores: Cuthbertson 194; Weddington 162; Marvin Ridge 119; Porter Ridge 52; Piedmont 19; Sun Valley 8.

Marvin Ridge’s Aria Wegh was the top individual performer, as she swept the 100 and 300 hurdles events and also won the 200 meters and the high jump.

Cuthbertson had a pair of double-winners in Alyssa Preisano (1,600 meters and 3,200 meters) and Maya Studney (long jump and triple jump). Weddington’s Natalie Brown won the shot put and discus.

GREATER METRO 4 4A MEET

Senior Logan Dingman and his sister Kasey, a freshman, accounted for six event championships in this meet, held at West Cabarrus High. The Dingmans are distance runners.

Boys’ team scores: Hickory Ridge 158; West Cabarrus 136; Mooresville 128; Lake Norman 97; A.L. Brown 68; Cox Mill 55; South Iredell 36.

Logan Dingman won the 800 meters, 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters. Mooresville’s Eric Heal swept the 110 and 300 meter hurdles events.

Girls’ team scores: Hickory Ridge 167; Mooresville 130; Lake Norman 107; South Iredell 95; West Cabarrus 89; Cox Mill 40; A.L. Brown 35.

Kasey Dingman took the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs.

Hickory Ridge had double-winners in Eric McClary (100 and 200 meters) and Alesia Silverain (shot put and discus). Mooresville’s Kendal Hudson was a three-time winner – long jump, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Boys’ team scores: Northwest Cabarrus 160; Lake Norman Charter 99; East Rowan 76; Central Cabarrus 76; South Rowan 69; West Rowan 35; Concord 31; Jesse Carson 8.

Central Cabarrus hurdler Tyler Dunn won the 110 and 300 meter hurdle events. Nylon Fair-Steele of Concord swept the 100 and 200 meter dashes. And Lake Norman Charter’s Truitt Evely won at 800 meters and was second at 1,600 meters.

Girls’ team scores: Lake Norman Charter 112; Concord 90; Northwest Cabarrus 89; Jesse Carson 84; East Rowan 77; South Rowan 49; Central Cabarrus 42; West Rowan 10.

Lake Norman Charter’s Lily Yampolsky led her team to victory by winning three events – the 400, 800 and 1,600 meter runs. Sydney Krause of Central Cabarrus won the long jump and triple jump and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles.

North Lincoln had several multi-winners in this meet, held at the North Lincoln track. Team scores were not totaled.

In the boys’ competition, North Lincoln’s Connor Bagwell won at 800 and 3,200 meters and ran second in the 1,600 meters. Teammate Liam Sutton swept the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Statesville’s Titus Myers dominated the sprints, winning at 100 and 200 meters.

North Lincoln had a pair of double-winners in the girls’ meet. Macy Parks won the 800 and 1,600 meter races, and Haylee Gibson took the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Statesville’s Janiya Johnson won the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

Boys’ team scores: Shelby 176; Thomas Jefferson Academy 135; Burns 97; Cherryville 36; Bessemer City 33; Highland Tech 25; East Gaston 19.

Girls’ team scores: Thomas Jefferson Academy 155; Shelby 125.5; B urns 87; Cherryville 61; Highland Tech 58.5; East Gaston 20; Bessemer City 14.

Highland Tech’s Jade Martin was among event winners, capturing the high jump.

YADKIN VALLEY 1A-2A MEET

Jay M. Robinson’s boys and Albemarle’s girls won team championships.

Boys’ team scores: Jay M. Robinson 141; Union Academy 130; Albemarle 102; North Stanly 77; South Stanly 76; Gray Stone Day 54; Mount Pleasant 51.

Top performers included Union Academy’s Evan Pardue, who won the 400 meters and was second in the 100 and 200 meters; and Union Academy’s Ezra Martin, who swept the jump events – long, high and triple.

Girls’ team scores: Albemarle 156; Union Academy 135; Jay M. Robinson 100; North Stanly 78; Gray Stone Day 69; Mount Pleasant 61; South Stanly 66.

The meet’s top performer was former Harding standout Akala Garrett, now at Albemarle. She captured the 200 meters, 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Union Academy’s Audrey Falcon was a triple-winner, taking the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame inducts 6th class

The Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame will induct its sixth class May 22 at the Statesville Civic Center. Doors open at 6 and tickets are $50 per person or $350 for a table of eight.

The Sports Hall of Fame will also honor senior male and female athletes from local high schools who will be announced later.

“The ICSHOF is pleased to have another amazing class to induct into the Hall of Fame,” said Ryan Pegarsch, Executive Director, ICSHOF. “This class is special since it encompasses two years of 2022 and 2023 due to the getting caught back up from the pandemic.”

The 2023 includes 13 people:

Mike Carter, coached football at Mooresville High School

C.A. Frye, coached football, basketball and baseball at Statesville High School

Wayne Harwell, played baseball, coached baseball and tennis at Statesville High School, and baseball umpire and League President.

Kelly Fleck Landry, played tennis at Statesville High School

Keith Lawrence Sr., played football, basketball and track at Statesville High School

Fred Long Jr., played football, basketball and baseball at Morningside High School

Mitch Mayhew, played football and wrestled at South Iredell High School

Tammy Millsaps, played volleyball, basketball and ran track at North Iredell High School

Mike Royal, coached basketball, cross country and track & field at Mooresville High School

Gary Sherrill, coached football, basketball, and golf at South Iredell High School
