Top-100 women’s basketball recruit Ella Hobbs of JM Robinson school chooses Ohio State

JM Robinson rising senior Ella Hobbs committed to Ohio State Sunday.

Hobbs is a four-star recruit recruit, ranked No. 83 by ESPN in its national ranking of girls basketball players in the class of 2024. Earlier this year, she named her top five schools: Ohio State, Michigan, UNC, Miami and Virginia Tech.

Last season, Hobbs played at the Charlotte-based 1-of-1 Prep -- which allows players to remain at their home school for academics or take online classes while playing for the team -- but has transferred back to Concord’s JM Robinson School, where she started her career.

At 1-of-1, which finished 26-8, Hobbs averaged 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.

Hobbs is one of several N.C. stars ranked in the ESPN Top 100: No. 2 Sarah Strong (Grace Academy); No. 14 Zamareya Jones (North Pitt); No. 26 Blanca Thomas (Charlotte Catholic); No. 55 Taylor Barner (Panther Creek).
