The area’s best. Meet The Charlotte Observer’s HS athletes of the 2022-23 school year
Welcome to the first Charlotte Observer High School Sports Awards.
In most years, the newspaper will name All-Observer teams at the end of each sport season. These have become a staple of the coverage. Today, we hope to establish a new tradition: we’re honoring the best athletes, coaches and teams of the entire school year.
For Year One, the awards were just for Mecklenburg County schools. Those local schools were asked to submit nominations for boys and girls athlete, boys and girls scholar-athlete, boys and girls coach, team of the year and for a courage award. The Observer took those nominations and allowed readers to vote and name their selections last week.
Now, we are releasing our picks, and next year, The Awards will expand to include all of the schools in the newspaper’s coverage zone.
