Hough High is looking for a new boys basketball coach.

The school announced on social media Monday that it was seeking a replacement for Jason Grube, who joined the school’s staff nine years ago.

It is unclear why Grube was let go. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools did not respond to a request from The Observer for comment.

Efforts to reach Grube were unsuccessful. Hough athletic director Lori DeMarcus said she could only confirm that the school has posted the open position. She did not know whether Grube would remain at school as a teacher.

“All I can tell you is that we posted the job on the CMS website,” DeMarcus said. “I want to find a replacement as soon as I can and make sure I get the right person in the right spot. It’s a good program and we’re a good school and I’d like to find the right fit. I don’t want to rush it but the offseason workouts usually start right after Labor Day.”

Grube won his 200th career game a few months before he took the job in Cornelius in 2014. Before Hough, Grube worked at East Mecklenburg and led the Eagles to the 2008 state championship.

Hough was 17-10 last season under Grube, and lost a close game to Southwest Guilford in the first round of the playoffs. Overall, Grube was 131-100 with the Huskies. Six of his nine teams had winning records.
