Friday is Week 2 of the high school football season, and some extreme temperatures are expected.

Many schools have pushed back kickoff times, up to an hour, to 8 p.m. Please check with the home school for times before heading out for games Friday.

Note: The Charlotte Observer’s Sweet 16 is a regional ranking of teams in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union Counties in North Carolina and York and Lancaster in South Carolina. The poll is in its 40th season
