High School Rewind: Four Charlotte-area soccer teams battle. No one wins

Four Charlotte-area soccer powers battled in a pair of matches Tuesday evening, and neither match produced a winner.

Myers Park scored twice in the second half, erasing a 1-0 deficit, and managed a 2-2 tie with host Hough. Myers Park is now 1-0-2 on the season, while Hough is 1-0-1.

Meanwhile, at Charlotte Country Day, the host Buccaneers rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and managed a 2-2 tie with Weddington. The visiting Warriors are 2-0-1, while Charlotte Country Day is 1-2-1.

One of the area’s hottest teams, Garinger, won for the fourth time in a row Tuesday.

The Wildcats blanked host Jay M. Robinson 3-0. After suffering a season-opening loss Garinger has outscored its opposition 22-0.

Carmel Christian 144, Gaston Day 176: Sienna Jauch shot a 45 and Maddie Dale had a 48, leading the Cougars in this match at Gaston Country Club.

Catawba Shores 1A-2A event: Pine Lake Prep’s Paisley Freda shot a 37, leading her team to victory at Mooresville Country Club. Christ the King’s Malerie Lague (39) and Corvian Community’s Ivanna Carreon (41) were second and third. Team scores: Pine Lake Prep 135; Christ the King 160; Lincoln Charter and Community School of Davidson, 166; Bradford Prep, 167.

Monday’s Rewind: Mooresville snaps Christ The King’s 14-match win streak

Mooresville snapped two-time defending state champion Christ the King’s 14-match winning streak Monday night, blanking the host Crusaders 5-0 in a nonconference boys’ soccer match.

It was the first loss for Christ the King since the middle of last season.

In this matchup of a 4A school against a 1A opponent, the big school took an early lead and never looked back.

Tanner Small and Payton Popp each scored twice for the Blue Devils (2-1).

The last time Christ the King (1-1) lost by five goals was four years ago – also against Mooresville.

Charlotte Latin 5, Metrolina Christian 0: Louis Martin made five saves and earned the shutout for the Hawks. Clayton Hahn (three goals, one assist) and Derin Lowe (one goal, one assist) led the offense.

Community School of Davidson 4, Forest Hills 0: Preston Cook scored twice for the Spartans, and Chris Bloom got the shutout in goal.

Corvian Community 1, Greater Cabarrus Stallions 1: Ian Adams scored for the Stallions.

Monday’s Rewind: Hough gets big volleyball win

Hough was a big winner at last weekend’s North-South high school volleyball tournament at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center.

The Huskies topped a field of more than two dozen high school volleyball teams from North and South Carolina, compiling a 7-0 record Friday and Saturday.

The Huskies handed both Ardrey Kell and Davidson Day their only losses in the tournament. Davidson Day finished 4-1, and Ardrey Kell had a 3-1 record.

Hough and Ardrey Kell met head-on Saturday, with the Huskies taking a 2-1 decision. Hough won the final set 15-11.

There also were weekend volleyball tournaments at Rocky River High and at Westminster Catawba School.
