North Carolina’s best high school basketball players are gathering Sunday. Details here

High school basketball fans will have a unique opportunity Sunday to see many of the state’s best returning and incoming boys’ players in one place.

The North Carolina Top 80 is at Rise Indoor Hoops in Bermuda Run, near Winston-Salem. The event begins at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 for a day pass.

In the past, only 80 players, across all classes, could attend, but this year 40 freshmen and 40 sophomores will play against each other, and then 80 juniors and seniors will also go through a day of skill work and live games. The event is put on by Phenom Hoop Report, which tracks recruiting statewide.

Among the players are Duke recruit Isaiah Evans (North Mecklenburg), Wake Forest recruit Juke Harris (Salisbury) and Central Cabarrus’ Chase and Carson Daniel — who led their team to a N.C. 3A state championship and to a national tournament championship game appearance last season. The Daniels boys have committed to Catawba.

Also committed to play are Chol Machot, a 7-foot high major prospect from Winston-Salem Christian; Concord Academy’s Sean Birmingham, who has committed to Indiana State; Zymicah Wilkins, a 6-8 forward from Christ School; and Lake Norman’s 6-9 center Trent Steinhour, who is getting ACC recruitment. Steinhour’s grandfather played at Clemson.

In the sophomore class, two Top 50 players are committed to play in the Top 80: Cole Cloer from Orange High, a 6-6 wing being recruited by UNC, N.C. State and Wake Forest; and Elhadji Diallo, a 6-7 wing from Combine Academy.

Event organizer Rick Lewis said the junior and senior players will be on two courts and the freshmen and sophomores will each have their own court.

The event will begin with skill work in the morning and then all players will play two games. Following that, there will be a playoff format, where teams play 15-minute games with a special rule only allowing a player to dribble three times per touch once the ball crosses half-court.

“Kids really step it up in each possession because these games are short,” Lewis said. “It’s been a lot of fun.”

Rosters for the event below. The freshman roster was not complete at the time of publication.
