Myers Park, Pine Lake Prep win golf regionals

Myers Park and Pine Lake Prep won high school girls’ golf regional tournaments this week and will be among six Charlotte-area teams advancing to next week’s state tournaments.

And a Myers Park golfer won medalist honors by shooting well under par.

Myers Park captured the 4A West Regional at Brushy Mountain Golf Club in Taylorsville, and Pine Lake Prep took the 1A-2A regional team title at Meadowbrook Golf Club in Rutherfordton.

Mustangs’ junior Elizabeth Rudisill was the 4A West medalist, shooting a 6-under 66.

Pine Lake Prep freshman Paisley Freda also won medalist honors in her regional, firing an even-par 72.

The top three teams in each regional, along with the top-scoring 17 individuals who are not a part of a qualifying team, advance to the state tournaments, to be played next Monday and Tuesday.

The 4A tournament will be at Pinehurst No. 6, the 3A event at Foxfire Resort near Southern Pines, and the 1A-2A tournament at Stonebridge Golf Club in Mineral Springs, south of Monroe.

3A Regional

Hibriten won the team title in the event, played at Springdale Resort in Canton. The Panthers shot a 254, topping fellow state qualifiers Lake Norman Charter (254) and South Point (276).

Hibriten senior Gabrielle Woods and North Henderson sophomore Leila Meadows tied for medalist honors with 77’s. Lake Norman Charter freshman Caitlyn Finch was third at 81.

Other top area finishers were South Point sophomore Madison Pruden (85) and East Lincoln senior Kyla Callahan (89).

1A-2A Regional

Pine Lake Prep (246), Thomas Jefferson Academy (259) and West Lincoln (267) grabbed the team spots for the state tournament.

Freda took medalist honors by one shot over Christ the King junior Malerie Lague. Bradford Prep senior Emily Rosenschein shot a 77 for third. Other top area finishers were West Lincoln sophomore Melony Hoffman (83) and Pine Lake Prep junior Gabrielle Greer (85).

NCISAA state finals
