Two familiar teams are back in The Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 high school football poll
West Charlotte and Charlotte Catholic return to The Observer’s Sweet 16 high school football poll this week.
Charlotte Catholic (8-3) has won two games in a row, including Friday’s 42-24 upset win against Myers Park, which was the SoMECK regular-season conference champion. Myers Park had won seven straight games and was ranked No. 12 in last week’s Sweet 16 poll.
The Mustangs dropped out this week.
Catholic has won four of its past five games and will play at Skyland Roberson (9-2) Friday in a second round playoff game. Catholic’s only loss in this run was 24-21 to Sweet 16 No. 2 Butler on Oct. 13.
West Charlotte (8-3) opened the N.C. 3A playoffs with a 21-0 win against Northwest Guilford on Friday. It was the Lions’ first shutout of the season and snapped a a two-game losing streak to 4A Chambers and 4A North Mecklenburg.
