Talking Preps: Breaking down Friday’s NCHSAA regional championship games

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s regional football championship games are scheduled for Friday.

On Talking Preps, high school football expert Chris Hughes breaks down all eight games, and the crew offers predictions and a detailed discussion on the Independence at Weddington game.

Other highlights:

Alex Bass and Dale Ross debate whether regional games should be played at neutral sites instead of at the home of the higher seed.

We feature the N.C. players of the week from the quarterfinal round on “Grice’s Gems”: Robbinsville’s Cuttler Adams, Shelby’s Izay Bridges, Cardinal Gibbons’ Gannon Jones, Hickory’s Isaiah Lackey, Wilmington Hoggard’s Reagan Printy, and Independence’s Bryce Lofton. Lofton also joins the show.

Independence coach D.J. McFadden and Weddington’s Andy Capone drop by to talk about their schools’ 4A state semifinal Friday.

On Coach vs. Coach, Sam Greiner and Jonathan Grice face off on a number of topics including whether South Carolina prep football is superior to that of North Carolina, whether a two-loss Weddington team deserved to host unbeaten Greensboro Grimsley and whether Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was too impatient with Frank Reich.
