Is Charlotte girls’ basketball on the decline? A discussion on blowouts, no ‘middle class’

Here’s what’s on tap for the first Talking Preps basketball show of the season:

A discussion about a rash of girls’ basketball blowouts in Charlotte-area and national high school and college basketball. What’s happened to the “middle class,” and is participation beginning to fall?

Talking Preps co-host Cristie Mitchell, a former coach at South Mecklenburg argues that girls’ basketball is quickly becoming games between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots.’

Co-hosts Randall Clark and Rick Lewis break down their girls’ and boys’ players of the week and two players join us live in studio.

Clark discusses the girls’ games of the week: Charlotte Latin at Providence Day, South Meck at Ardrey Kell, Lake Norman at Hickory Ridge Friday; and Cannon School-Legacy Charter Saturday.

Lewis discusses the boys’ games of the week including Chambers at North Meck and South Meck at Ardrey Kell; and Lake Norman at Hickory Ridge Friday.

Finally, on “Coach vs. Coach,” Clark and Gary Richmond debate the future of girls’ basketball locally, whether the NCHSAA going to eight classes is good for basketball; and whether playing state and regional championships in the same week is a good idea.
