What are the top high school basketball teams in North Carolina? Check our latest rankings

There are no changes in the latest statewide girls’ high school basketball rankings from The Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer of Raleigh, but there are plenty of new teams on the boys’ side.

In the NCISAA boys’ rankings, 16-5 Providence Day joins the poll at No. 10. The Chargers have won four in a row.

In 4A boys, Wilmington’s Laney High — Michael Jordan’s alma mater — is in at No. 10. The Buccaneers have won three straight games and play at Topsail (3-10) on Friday.

In 3A, 9-1 Crest is in at No. 8. The Chargers lost their season opener, 48-44 to Shelby, but have won nine straight.

There are no new teams in the boys’ 2A poll, but there are two new schools in 1A: 8-2 North Edgecombe is in at No. 8 and 10-2 Andrews at No. 9.

North Edgecome, led by senior Dontrevious Whitaker (18 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.0 apg), has won eight straight. Andrews has won six of its past seven games.
