NC State basketball recruit breaks 74-year-old NC high school scoring record

Richmond Senior guard Paul McNeil had a night to remember Tuesday.

McNeil had 71 points in a 118-52 win against Lee County to set a new North Carolina public school scoring record.

McNeil, who has committed to play at N.C. State, broke the state record of 67 points set in 1950 by Clayton’s Bob Poole. McNeil made 28-of-49 field goal attempts and tied a school record with 10 made 3-point attempts.

Richmond Senior improved to 11-5. Lee County fell to 5-9.

For the season, McNeil is averaging 31.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. He is making 53 percent of his field goal attempts.
