SouthLake Christian’s Maddox Watson is The Observer’s high school boys’ athlete of the week

SouthLake Christian basketball player Maddox Watson is The Charlotte Observer’s boys’ high school athlete of the week.

The 6-foot-4 senior scored 22 points, including five 3-pointers, in a 97-48 win over Thales Academy Apex in the first round of the NCISAA 3A state playoffs on Feb. 13.

Watson also scored his 1,500th career points in the same game.

Watson scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds in a 65-62 loss at Calvary Day School in the second round of the playoffs on Feb. 15.

Watson averaged 18.5 points and five rebounds, while shooting 42 percent from the 3-point line for SouthLake Christian (18-16) this season.
