Former Duke star Shane Battier’s son, a D1 college recruit, enrolls at Charlotte school

Zeke Battier, the son of former Duke All-American Shane Battier, has enrolled at Charlotte’s Providence Day School.

Zeke Battier is currently participating in the NCAA College Basketball Academy in Rock Hill for promising high school talent.

His father was a 1997 McDonald’s All-American and Mr. Basketball in Michigan, playing for Detroit Country Day. After playing four years at Duke, a career that included a national championship and two Final Four appearances, Shane Battier played 13 years in the NBA and won two titles with the Miami Heat.

Zeke Battier is a 6-foot-6, 195-pound small forward. He’ll be a sophomore this fall. He played for Stephen Curry’s Charlotte-based Team Curry travel ball team this summer.

Last season, Zeke Battier played for Ransom Everglades (FL) and was named to the Miami Herald’s All Miami-Dade third team. Ransom Everglades is a private school in Coconut Grove, FL. The Raiders’ basketball team was 10-16.

Battier led the team in scoring (24.5 points), rebounding (9.3), steals (1.5) and blocks (1.0). He was third in assists (1.3).

At Providence Day, he joins a Chargers’ team that was 25-9 last season and reached the NCISAA 4A state championship game.

“Zeke is a coaches dream,” said Erik Whaley, who coached Battier on Team Curry’s 15U team this summer. “(He) came in midway through the travel season and made an instant impact for our team. It was hard for me to take him off the floor at times. He has an extremely high IQ for a player at his age. He grew about five inches from last summer so he has the ability to play on the perimeter and shoots very well. The sky is the limit for him. I am excited to see his development over the next (three) years. “
