Meet the top 50 high school football players in Mecklenburg County
Six high school juniors rank among the top 10 in the first-ever Charlotte Observer ranking of the top 50 players in Mecklenburg County.
Last month, we named the top 50 players in the region, which covered the following counties — Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lancaster (SC), Lincoln, Union and York (SC).
Today, the list centers only on the largest county in the area, and the list will be updated later this season.
At the top is Providence Day offensive lineman David Sanders, the reigning Gatorade N.C. player of the year. A 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive and defensive tackle, Sanders is ranked No. 3 nationally, regardless of position, by 247 Sports among rising seniors. He is uncommitted for college, but has narrowed his choices to Georgia, Nebraska, Ohio State and Tennessee.
After him, six juniors rank in the top 10: No. 2 Kendre Harrison of Providence Day, the reigning MaxPreps national male athlete of the year; No. 3 Rodney Dunham of Myers Park; No. 4 Leo Delaney of Providence Day; No. 5 Samari Matthews of Hough; No. 7 Brody Keefe of Myers Park; and No. 10 Zaid Lott of Providence Day.
