High school football gameday: Your guide to games Monday and Tuesday in Charlotte-area

Thanks to a heavy band of thunderstorms Friday, we have Monday Night (high school) football.

The storms nearly rained out Friday night football in the Charlotte area.

An area of thunderstorms that battered the Raleigh and Greenville areas in the afternoon drifted southwest, into the Charlotte region on Friday evening.

The result was a large number of postponements. Some of the games were started and were resumed Saturday. Some were postponed until Monday.

A few games, including Raleigh’s Cardinal Gibbons at Mallard Creek, Asheville at Providence Day and West Charlotte at Monroe, were called off and won’t be rescheduled.

And the Ardrey Kell at Weddington game was halted by the storm in the second quarter, with Weddington leading 14-0. Initially, the completion of the game was scheduled for Saturday afternoon. But officials from both schools decided later to call the game “official,” and it will not be finished.
