No. 6 Hough routs Chambers in Monday night football game, 58-3
The Hough Huskies picked up another dominant win on Monday, beating Queen City conference rival Chambers 58-3 in a game delayed from last week by Hurricane Helene.
Hough’s defense set the tone early, consistently stopping Chambers and the Huskies’ offense began to light up the scoreboard.
Junior QB Trey Blakeney threw three first half touchdowns and ran for another.
The Huskies were up 28-3 at halftime and the lead continued to grow in the second half.
“I thought we finally kind of put together a complete game,” Hough coach Shawn Baker said. “We still got a whole bunch of inconsistencies that we got to fix on offense and defense. Our defense sets the tone for us though, they play hard and give us the ball. On offense our goal is to give the defense a two-score lead, and we came out and did that. We blocked well up front, you know the bigs up front they did a tremendous job of giving Trey time to throw the ball, so we just really came out focused today.”
Baker said he was especially pleased with Blakeney, his QB1.
“He brings so much composure,” Baker said. “When I’m getting rowdy and upset he’s like “Coach calm down I got it, we’re good,” so I think his growth from last year is tremendous.”
While his head coach heaped on the praise, Blakeney deferred to his teammates as the reason for his success.
“I feel like I had a good game, but it’s really all my linemen,” Blakeney said. “I don’t think I had one sack, and then my receivers were making plays, the catches weren’t the easiest catches, but I put it out there and they caught it.”
Three Who Made a Difference
Trey Blakeney, Hough: The Huskies quarterback put up some video game numbers, throwing for four touchdowns, and picking up another on the ground.
Sean Brady, Hough: Blakeney’s top target on the day racked up several big plays including two touchdown receptions.
Jycen Anciso, Hough: The Huskies leading tailback also had a phenomenal game, racking up some serious yards on the ground to go along with a touchdown reception.
