Mooresville High School makes a big jump in this week’s Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 poll.

The Sweet 16, which began in 1984, ranks the top teams in the media company’s coverage area, which includes schools in the following counties: Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Union plus York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina.

This week, the Blue Devils jumped four spots to No. 12.

Mooresville has won three straight games and is averaging more than 54 points per game, led by QB Brody Norman, who has thrown for 1,068 yards and 11 touchdowns for the season.

Note: The poll is compiled by longtime N.C. high school football expert Chris Hughes, a co-host of The Observer’s Talking Preps podcast.
