NCHSAA GIRLS’ GOLF REGIONALS

Regional tournaments are being played Monday and Tuesday this week, to qualify teams and individual golfers for next week’s N.C. High School Athletic Association girls’ golf championships.

In Monday’s competition, South Point, Lake Norman Charter and Stuart Cramer qualified teams for the 3A state tournament, by virtue of their scores in the 3A West Regional at Cramer Mountain Country Club.

And in the 3A Midwest Regional, golfers from Parkwood and Piedmont qualified for the state tournament.

The 4A West Regional will be played Tuesday at Statesville Country Club, with t he 1A-2A West Regional set for Lincolnton Country Club.

3A WEST: Tuscola (262), South Point (267) and Lake Norman Charter (273) gained the three automatic team qualifying spots for the state tournament. Also qualifying were the 17 best individuals who were not a member of the top three teams.

If team that finishes fourth or lower have three individual state tournament qualifiers, that team also gains a berth in the state event. That is what happened to Stuart Cramer, which was fourth Monday but had Audrey Leazer, Winsley Crotts and MacKenzie Blackledge qualify as individuals.

Medalists honors were shared by McKenna Williams (Tuscola) and Trinity White (Hibriten), each with a 79. South Point’s top scorer was junior Madison Pruden, with an 83. Sophomore Caitlyn Frisch led Lake Norman Charter with an 87.

Individual state tournament qualifiers were Samantha Munoz (Forestview), Carson Verburg (Northwest Cabarrus) and Ava Mason (Jay M. Robinson).

3A MIDWEST: Team qualifiers for the state tournament were Southern Alamance (243), Lee County (255) and Carrboro (276). Individual qualifiers at The Valley Golf Course in Burlington included Piedmont’s Haylee Taylor and Madyson Woolard, and Parkwood’s Isabella Delli Colli.
