Jackson Day School’s Courtney Ashford is The Observer’s high school athlete of the week.

Jackson Day, a 1A public school, is in north Charlotte.

Ashbrook, a 5-foot-4 sophomore girls’ basketball player, poured in 26 points to go with five assists and two steals in a 72-16 win at Bradford Prep on Nov. 5.

Ashford followed up with 23 points and six steals in a 79-3 victory over the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics on Nov. 8.

Ashford is averaging 24.5 points and three steals per game for Jackson Day (2-0) this season.
