Friday’s boys’ high school basketball rewind: No. 10 Providence rallies past Ardrey Kell
Brett Freeman scored 21 points in the second half to lead Ardrey Kell, ranked No. 10 in The Charlotte Observer’s preseason Sweet 16 poll, to a 62-45 win over rival Providence on Friday.
It was the season opener for both teams.
Freeman finished with 21 points and five rebounds. Teammate Matthew Craft had 13 points. Bryceton Thomas had nine points and seven rebounds for the Knights and Owen Wacker added six points and seven rebounds.
Ardrey Kell outscored Providence 21-4 to blow open what had been a tight game. Providence led 28-20 at halftime.
Friday’s #BIG5 boys’ top performers
JD Bowden, Ambassador Christian: In a 67-52 win over Charlotte Country Day, Bowden had 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block.
Brett Freeman, Ardrey Kell: In a 62-45 win over Providence, Freeman scored all 21 of his points in the second half and added five rebounds.
William Stevens, Davidson Day: The Patriots’ post player had 13 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in a 72-55 win over Grace Christian.
Braden Wilkie, Lake Norman Charter: Wilkie had a game-high 24 points in a 76-58 win over Christ The King.
Kyri Wilson, Mooresville: In a 92-41 win over Garinger, Wilson had 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
