Girls’ high school basketball rewind: Olympic runs past AL Brown at home, box scores

Olympic High’s girls’ basketball team had a dominant performance in a 37-17 win over Kannapolis’ A.L. Brown on Tuesday at home.

The Trojans (3-2) held the visiting Wonders (3-4) without a field goal until the 2:35 mark of the third quarter.

Nae Wannamaker had nine points, Arianna Shaw scored eight points and Jasmyn Ashbourne and Chaya James each finished with six points to lead Olympic coach David Johnson’s team.

London Gray’s nine points led A.L. Brown.

Tuesday’s #BIG5 top performers

Justice Alexander, Concord Academy: Alexander went for a game-high 31 points in a 84-14 win over SouthLake Christian.

Ginny Anne Dumont, Providence Day: Dumont had a game-high 20 points in a 71-35 win over Lincoln Charter. After an 0-3 and 2-5 start, the Chargers — a regional girls’ basketball powerhouse — have won four straight.

Jahnae Duncan, Central Cabarrus: In a 57-35 win over East Rowan, Duncan flirted with a triple-double: 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

Hannah Moss, Butler: In an 83-53 win over Weddington, Moss flirted with a triple-double. She had 14 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

Elle Stone, Kiara Anderson, Mallard Creek: In a 65-37 win over Myers Park, Stone had 24 points, eight steals, three rebounds, two assists and a block. Anderson had 19 points, eight steals, six assists and two rebounds.

Lake Norman makes a statement

On Monday night at home, Lake Norman’s girls, No. 2 in the Sweet 16, routed No. 4 South Meck, 72-17.

Lake Norman led 29-4 after the first quarter and 54-9 at halftime. South Meck (7-1) is down two starters, including star Nykira Arrington (broken hand), who was averaging 12.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 6.3 steals and 2.5 assists, but the Sabres were unbeaten going into the game.

Lake Norman (6-0), which plays Statesville on Friday, is winning by an average of 47 points per game, and have beaten Sweet 16 No. 3 Mallard Creek (60-52 Nov. 23), No. 7 Concord Academy (70-42, Nov. 29) and now fourth-ranked South Mecklenburg.

Monday, Alexis and Samantha Shehan, sisters signed to Kentucky Wesleyan, combined for 32 points and Kelsey Rhyne had 14.
