Chambers High football coach Brandon Wiggins has resigned. Here’s what comes next

Chambers High School is about to begin the search for the ninth head football coach in school history.

After coaching for three seasons, Brandon Wiggins has resigned and will remain as Dean of Students, athletic director Reese Felder told The Observer on Thursday.

Wiggins coached Chambers for three seasons, posting a 22-12 record.

Wiggins’ team was 5-5 this season and did not make the playoffs.

“Coach Wiggins has some amazing statistics here,” Felder said. “He’s helped more than 50 student-athletes move on and play at the college level. His team GPA has never been below 3.0, and he’s harped on character development with the kids. As a coach he’s been the ultimate team player.

“I know our record didn’t indicate this year the type of work he and his staff put in, but I think he is a man of character and the values he displayed will allow him to be successful anywhere he goes.”

Felder said he and principal Travares Hicks will put together a search committee with plans to have two rounds of interviews with semifinalists and finalists. The plan would be to name a new coach next month.

From 2014-2022, the Cougars had two coaches, Glenwood Ferebee and Aaron Brand. Their teams produced seven double-digit winning seasons in eight years, made four state championship appearances and won two rings.

“We’re looking for someone who is going to come in and build off some of the foundation that Coach Wiggins has already laid,” Felder said, “and be able to build a relationship with the kids and with the community. I think those two things are very important to be successful here at Chambers High School. We also want someone to have a good relationship with the parents and to be able to replay his vision to get them on board.”
