Monroe High’s Jalik Reyes is The Observer’s boys’ high school athlete of the week
Monroe High indoor track runner Jalik Reyes is The Observer’s boys’ high school athlete of the week.
The Redhawks’ junior ran the lead leg (55 second split) of Monroe’s 1,600-meter relay team, which finished first at the Anson County Polar Bear on Jan. 28.
Two days later, Reyes again ran the lead leg of the 1,600-meter relay in a personal-record 51 seconds to help Monroe to victory (3:35.559) at the Piedmont Polar Bear. The Piedmont Polar Bear time also qualified the Redhawks’ quartet for the 2A state championships later this month.
Reyes is also a standout in the classroom at Monroe, where he boasts a 4.3 grade-point average.
