Raleigh Charter sweeps NCHSAA 1A/2A state swimming championships

Raleigh Charter’s boys repeated as NCHSAA 1A/2A state swimming champions Saturday in Cary, and the girls beat 2024 champ Pine Lake Prep to finish off the double.

The meet was held at the Triangle Aquatic Club.

The Raleigh Charter boys won their third state title, after winning their first in 2018. The girls won for the seventh time, after outpointing Pine Lake Prep 271.5-232.

Woods Charter’s Daisy Collins was named girls’ most outstanding swimmer. Collins won the 200 free and 500 freestyle.

Andrew Cook of Franklin Academy and Raleigh Charter’s Leon Zhang shared the boys’ most outstanding award. Zhang won the 200 free and 100 butterfly. Cook won the 50 and 100 free events.

Observer-area champions included:

Pine Lake Prep’s Asher Allebach (boys 200 IM).

Pine Lake Prep’s girls 200 freestyle relay (Addy McDonough, Sophie Storie, Campbell Kolbay, Grace McCarthy).

Bradford Prep’s boys 200 free relay (Truman Lee, Ian Watson, Cameron Darling, Wilson Felder)

Mountain Island Charter’s Beck Armstrong (boys 100 back)

Union Academy’s Kayda Geyer (girls 100 breast)

Community School of Davidson’s Addison Nardone and Eno River’s Evan Myers won the 1A/2A state diving championships, which concluded Friday.
