The 2025 high school baseball season officially begins Monday.

Five schools will begin the chase for state championships ranked No. 1 in their classification in the N.C. statewide baseball polls, sponsored by The Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer of Raleigh.

The polls are compiled by longtime N.C. high school sports expert Alex Bass.

Two-time N.C. 4A champ Roberson High, from Skyland, begins the quest for a three-peat at No. 1 in the 4A poll. Greene Central, which won its sixth state title last year, starts No. 1 in 2A. Two-time 1A state champ Uhwarrie Charter, like Roberson, begins chasing a three-peat ranked No. 1 in the 1A poll. And in the private school rankings, reigning NCISAA champion Metrolina Christian, from Indian Trail, start out No. 1.

The only preseason No. 1 that wasn’t a state champion last season is in 3A where Winterville’s South Central begins in the top spot. Reigning 3A champ East Rowan is third. East Rowan beat South Central in the 2024 finals.

Here are the preseason ranking, with each school’s hometown. The rankings are divided by classification except in private schools, where all teams are grouped together.
