Chambers did it! Cougars overcome rival North Mecklenburg in Queen City championship game
Chambers High School has two top-100 players on its roster, and Friday night Tarris Bouie and Markus Kerr showed why they are such sought-after college prospects in the Queen City 3A/4A conference tournament championship game.
The two juniors both had monster games in a 75-70 win over North Mecklenburg that snapped the Vikings’ 16-game win streak.
“It feels really good,” Bouie said. “All of our hard work has been showing.”
The game was evenly matched until less than a minute left in the fourth quarter when Kerr scored on a layup and-one free throw and Bouie followed with two free throws to give Chambers a 73-68 lead.
North Meck forward Exzavier Young quickly dunked the ball with 25 seconds left to bring the game within three.
But North Meck missed its last opportunity to tie, and potentially force overtime, as guard Chadlyn Traylor missed a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left.
Next, Bouie was fouled and he hit two free throws to put the game out of reach.
Bouie was awarded the Queen City 3A/4A tournament MVP after he scored 24 points.
