Upcoming key games

(Girls) Legion Collegiate (20-13) at Porter Ridge (16-5), 6 p.m. — Rock Hill-based Legion Collegiate makes its second appearance in as many nights in the Charlotte area. The Lancers, who play a tough independent schedule, will try to slow Porter Ridge’s standout sophomore, Ashanti Taylor, who is averaging 32.5 points a game.

THURSDAY

(Girls) Bishop McGuinness (19-1) at No. 1 Lake Norman (19-1), 6 p.m. — What would happen if you pitted the potential 1A state champion against the potential 4A state champ? You can find out Thursday night at Lake Norman, as the Wildcats face Winston-Salem powerhouse Bishop McGuinness. Adelaide Jernigan, a senior forward, averages 26.5 points per game for the Villains, who reached the state’s final four a year ago. Lake Norman, of course, is loaded with Division-1 talent, with Samantha Shehan (16.4 ppg) leading the way.

(Girls) Asheville Christian (17-11) at Gaston Christian (15-5), 5:30 p.m. (second round, NCISAA 3A playoffs) — These teams played earlier this season, but it was a long time ago — back on Nov. 8. Gaston Christian won that game 55-44, with Happy Arune scoring a game-high 24 points. The Eagles held Asheville Christian to 33 percent shooting from the floor that night.
