NCHSAA committee releases final draft of high school conference realignment proposal

The N.C. High School Athletic Association’s realignment committee has released its third and final draft for proposed new conferences that NCHSAA schools will play in, beginning next fall.

An NCHSAA spokesperson told The Observer Friday afternoon that the NCHSAA Board of Directors would meet, via Zoom, on Sunday to discuss the proposal and how it plans to move forward.

Schools can continue to make requests to move, but those requests must now be directed to the board, which is expected to vote on any amended final draft sometime in the next few months.

The committee’s final draft would mean big changes for Observer-area schools, including in Mecklenburg County, where teams would be divided into five conferences instead of three.

Under the proposal, Charlotte Catholic would re-joining a league of Union County teams that it had long been a part of before joining the Southwestern 4A in Mecklenburg County.

Berry, Harding and Olympic would join a conference with Cabarrus County teams, and the remaining CMS schools would be divided into three conferences.
