Pine Lake Prep’s Joseph Bruce is The Observer’s high school boys’ athlete of the week.

The 6-foot senior scored 28 points, had three rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 63-54 win over Bradford Prep in the first round of the Catawba Shores 1A/2A conference tournament on Feb. 17.

The next night, Bruce scored 18 points to go with three rebounds, one assist, four steals and one block in a 54-32 victory over Lincoln Charter in the tournament semifinals.

Bruce finished off the tournament with 24 points, two rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks in a 60-53 win over Corvian Charter in the conference championship game on Feb. 21.

Bruce is averaging 16.8 points, three rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.9 steals per game for Pine Lake Prep (20-7).
