East Mecklenburg entered its baseball game against A.L. Brown on Wednesday night unbeaten in conference play and on a four-game win streak with more than 15 major league scouts on hand to see Wonders starter CJ Gray.

Gray threw just 32 pitches through two innings. He struck out four, but walked two, hit a batter and wasn’t super sharp.

But Eagles starter Jacob Addison was, and led his team to an 8-4 win.

Addison lasted 6.2 innings, striking out 12 while allowing just five hits and one walk.

“I felt really good,” Addison said. ”I knew I had to throw strikes and control what I could control. We knew the scouts were there, but I had to just play my game. That’s all I wanted to do.”

The Eagles only could muster three hits, but took advantage of six wild pitches, six walks and four hit batters to secure the win.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Wonders loaded the bases and scored twice on a double by second baseman Drew Ryan to tie the score at 4.

The Eagles’ Gabriel Johnson broke the tie with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning, and East Meck tacked on three more runs in that frame for the winning margin.

They said it

“Jacob was good, but he’s been good every start this year,” East Meck coach Clint Koppe said. “We are unbeaten in conference, but for us, our conference starts next week with Butler, Independence and Charlotte Catholic. Then we will see where we’re at.”
