A half-dozen Charlotte-area basketball standouts have one more game left in their high school careers.

They are among 40 seniors from the Carolinas selected to play in Saturday’s annual Carolinas Classic All-Star Games, sponsored by the coaches associations of the two states.

It’s a basketball version of football’s Shrine Bowl, with the top players from North Carolina facing their South Carolina counterparts. A girls’ game will open the doubleheader at 3 p.m., with the boys’ game to follow around 5 p.m.

The games will be at Hoggard High in Wilmington.

Among the Charlotte-area boys playing Saturday is Chadlyn Traylor, who earned Most Valuable Player honors in leading North Mecklenburg to the 4A state championship last Saturday.

Traylor, a College of Charleston commit, averaged 20 points a game this season and made 55% of his field goals, including 40% from 3-point range.

Younger, who is headed to UNC Greensboro, averaged 25.1 points a game and shot 59 percent from the floor.

Charlotte-area players in the girls’ game are Samantha Shehan (Lake Norman) and Tionna Pettus (Bessemer City).

Shehan, a Kentucky Wesleyan commit, averaged 16.7 points a game in helping lead Lake Norman to the 4A state championship last Saturday.

Pettus, who is undecided about her college career, averaged 40.1 points a game, the best in North Carolina and second-best nationally. She also averaged 14.3 rebounds, 10.6 steals and 4.4 blocks.

North Mecklenburg girls’ head coach Jennifer Baker will be assistant coach of the North Carolina team.

North Carolina leads the boys’ and girls’ all-time series, each by a 15-10 margin. But South Carolina swept the games last year, winning the boys’ contest 98-93 and the girls’ 80-58.
