Myers Park baseball on a hot streak, and Mustangs return to Sweet 16 poll
Since losing to Ardrey Kell on April 25 and suffering its third loss in a row, the Myers Park High School baseball team has found something.
The Mustangs have won seven of their past eight games to improve to 14-6 overall, and 8-1 in the SoMECK conference, just a half game behind league leader South Mecklenburg (14-8, 9-1).
That run has led the Mustangs back into The Sweet 16 this week. Myers Park, No. 13 in this week’s rankings, hosts No. 8 South Mecklenburg Tuesday in a big league game. Myers Park will also play at South Mecklenburg in the regular-season finale April 25.
▪ The Sweet 16 rankings include NCHSAA and NCISAA teams in The Observer’s coverage area, which includes schools in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties. The rankings are put together by longtime N.C. high school expert Alex Bass, a co-host of The Observer’s “Talking Preps” show.
