The Chargers (20-1) looked like they might turn this battle of the top two playoff seeds into blowout, leading No. 2 Country Day 8-4 at halftime.

Country Day (17-7) quickly turned things around, however, scoring three goals in the third quarter to trim its deficit to one.

After Providence Day Head Coach Nicole Donoghue called a timeout to refocus her team, the Chargers locked in on defense and scored six straight goals to close the game until one last goal by the Bucs while the game was out of reach.

“A lot of what our huddle talks are about are, you know, stay focused on one thing, be in the moment, be present and then work.” Donoghue said.

Providence Day was crowned champion after the game after finishing the season with a 20-1 record.

“We were definitely making sure that we weren’t getting complacent at all and being satisfied with where we were, especially after the half when we’re up by a good amount,” said Providence Day midfielder Campbell Stuart, who scored three times in the final.

NOTES

Providence Day’s Marlo Stuart and Country Day’s Ella Stein each scored five goals. Providence Day’s Lucy Dyer scored four.
