Meet the 2025 All-Observer boys’ golf team, the region’s top athletes

Charlotte Catholic senior Will Hartman is The Charlotte Observer boys’ golfer of the year for the third time.

Hartman won the 2025 award after capping his career with his second NCHSAA 4A state championship at Pinehurst No. 8 last month.

In the final round, Hartman shot a 7-under-par 65 and made a birdie on the final hole of his high school career.

Hartman swept the season’s most important events, also winning the 4A west regional with a 69, and the Southwestern 4A conference title, shooting a 64.

Hartman, a Vanderbilt University signee, is currently ranked No. 10 in the country by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).

Hartman has been a member of the U.S. Junior National team, having competed for U.S. Junior President’s Cup team last summer.

Charlotte Latin’s Chris Berger is the Charlotte Observer boys’ golf coach of the year after leading the Hawks’ to their third straight NCISAA 4A state championship. The Hawks shot a school-record 15-under par to win the event by 16 shots.

The Charlotte Latin effort was also the lowest 36-hole score in NCISAA state tournament history.

Charlotte Latin also won the CISAA conference title this season.

Berger has also been the Charlotte Latin head boys’ basketball coach for the last 17 years.

All-Observer first team

Jude Carper, Hough, Sr.: The Huskies’ senior, a Gardner-Webb University signee, tied for 10th at the 4A state championships and tied for eighth at the 4A west regional.

Griffin Cheatwood, Charlotte Latin, Jr.: The Hawks’ junior, a Davidson College commit, finished third at the NCISAA 4A state championship. He was CISAA conference champion.

Lane Crotts, Stuart Cramer, So.: The Storm sophomore tied for third at the 3A state championships, tied for eighth at 3A west regional and helped the Stuart Cramer boys’ golf team to its first ever state title.

Colin Ferrick, Christ the King, Sr.: The Crusaders’ senior, a La Salle University signee, tied for third at the 1A state championships. Ferrick won the 1A west regional by eight shots.

George Fisher, Myers Park, Jr.: The Mustangs’ junior was 4A west regional runner-up and tied for 16th at the 4A state championships.

Talan Harrison, Northwest Cabarrus, Sr.: The Trojans’ senior, a University of South Carolina signee, was co-3A midwest regional champion. He tied for ninth at the 3A state championships.

Will Hartman, Charlotte Catholic, Jr.: The Cougars’ senior, a Vanderbilt University signee, capped his career with the 4A state championship, while also winning the 4A western regional and southwestern 4A conference titles.

Henry Holland, Charlotte Latin, Jr.: The Hawks’ junior, a James Madison University commit, shot back-to-back 68s to win the NCISAA 4A state individual title. Holland was also CISAA conference runner-up and won the Carmel Country Club High School Invitational.

Jared Myers, East Lincoln, Sr.: The Mustangs’ senior, a Lenoir-Rhyne University commit, shot a 66 to win the 3A west regional title by seven shots. Myers also finished tied for third at the 3A state championships.

Alexander Paschall, Charlotte Christian, Sr.: The Knights’ star, a Davidson College commit, tied for fourth at the NCISAA 4A state championships. He was also an all-CISAA performer.

Jack Pelletier, Ardrey Kell, Sr.: A Denison University (OH) commit, Pelletier tied for fourth at the 4A state championships, while finishing third-place at the 4A west regional.

Warren Stiglitz, East Lincoln, So.: The Mustangs’ sophomore was the 3A state champion, 2A west regional runner-up and repeated Western Foothills’ 3A conference player of the year.
