Friday’s high school football rewind: How The Sweet 16 fared, NC scores, next week’s schedule
Some highlights from another busy Friday night:
— Ballantyne Ridge got into the win column Friday.
Charlotte’s newest high school beat Garinger 49-14 and won for the first time.
The school opened the fall of 2024 and last season, the Wolves went 0-11, scoring just 37 points all season.
This year, Ballantyne Ridge started out 0-3, but broke through Friday with a blowout win.
— Hickory Ridge beat Parkwood 28-7 Friday, ending a 13-game losing streak. Hickory Ridge had not won since beating West Cabarrus 35-28 on Oct. 27, 2023.
— Davion Jones had two interceptions for West Charlotte in a 42-7 win over Providence. The Lions bounced back from an overtime loss to Rock Hill’s South Pointe High a week ago.
— Charlotte Country Day and Charlotte Latin continued their football renaissance Friday. Latin moved to 4-0 with a 42-13 win over Metrolina Christian. For the season, the Hawks are outscoring opponents 205-33. Country Day is also 4-0 after beating Covenant Day 38-14. The Bucs are outscoring teams 132-46. The Charlotte private school conference may not just be a two-team race between Providence Day and Charlotte Christian anymore.
