Five Observer-area players, teams win NCHSAA state championships in girls’ golf

Five Charlotte-area girls’ golfers and five Observer-area teams won NCHSAA state golf championships Tuesday. Despite rainy weather, there were seven championships held.

Individual winners included Jackson Day’s Landry Hamm (1A/2A), Pine Lake Prep’s Paisley Freda (3A), East Lincoln’s Kennedy Gallentine (5A), Charlotte Catholic’s Elizabeth Guthrie (6A) and Marvin Ridge’s Ella Spence (7A) .

Hamm won the 1A/2A championship a year ago.

The team winners were: Pine Lake Prep (3A), Lake Norman Charter (4A), South Point (5A), Charlotte Catholic (6A) and Marvin Ridge (7A).

The rain forced changes to six of seven scheduled finals and two classes were paired together. The 1A/2A, 3A, 4A and 8A championships were shortened to 18 holes. The 5A and 6A were 27. The only championship to play the full 36 holes scheduled was in 7A.
