As NCHSAA playoffs begin, here are the top high school football teams in North Carolina

Eleven new teams join the North Carolina statewide high school football polls this week, just days before the N.C. playoffs begin.

This will be the final ranking until the season ends in December.

There are two new No. 1-ranked teams. In the 1A class, KIPP Pride (10-0) takes over the top spot from Robbinsville (7-3), which fell to No. 2. In 5A, Hickory (9-1) jumped one spot to No. 1. Previous No. 1 Crest (8-2) fell to No. 3.

The rankings are compiled by Chris Hughes, a longtime N.C. high school football expert and co-host of The Observer’s Talking Preps weekly show.
