Why Her?: Cheong, only 15, is a two-time all-state player, who recently qualified for the U.S. Women’s
Amateur in Portland (OR), and has 4.2 grade-point average.
Charlotte Observer Golfers to Watch
Samantha Vodry, Mooresville, Jr.: North Piedmont conference (NPC) co-runner-up finished, 3rd at 4A West Regionals, 5th at states.
Kathryn Carson, Lake Norman, Jr.: Co-NPC runner-up, finished 3rd at 4A West Regional, 6th at states.
Alexis Whitney, Ardrey Kell, Sr.: SoMeck8 conference player of the year finished as 4A West Regional runner-up, 8th at states.
Roshnee Sharma, Providence Day, Sr.: NCISAA and CISAA conference runner-up looks to finish with championships.
Emily Anderson, Porter Ridge, Jr.: SW4A player of the year finished 8th at 4A West Regional, 24th at states.
Charlotte Observer Teams to Watch
Cannon: Coach Pat Whisnant and Co. go for 5th straight NCISAA state title, but will depend on young players like freshmen, Muskal Uppal and Elena Jacoby.
Ardrey Kell: The Knights have finished no worse than third in the states since in the past six seasons, and look to continue that streak as contender again in 2015.
Charlotte Latin: The Hawks have a loaded lineup, and will be shooting to unseat conference rival, Cannon School.
Providence Day: The Chargers also have the talent, led by Roshnee Sharma, to contend for a NCISAA state crown.
Charlotte Catholic: The Cougars have another strong team, and hope to battle Ardrey Kell in SoMeck8 conference, West Region and beyond with junior Keri Kenkel leading the squad.
