Longtime Marvin Ridge football coach will not return. Here’s what we know

Longtime Marvin Ridge High football coach Aubrey Carter won’t be returning to the Union County school next season.

Carter confirmed to The Observer Wednesday that he wouldn’t be back.

Carter has coached at Marvin Ridge since 2015, compiling a 72-53 record. After seven straight years without a losing season, the Mavericks have had two losing seasons in the past four.

Carter’s team was 6-6 this fall, finishing fifth in the Southern Carolinas conference.

Tyler Simmons will serve as the Mavericks’ interim coach.

Carter is the second Southern Carolinas conference coach to be replaced this week. Charlotte Catholic named a former coach, five-time state champion Mike Brodowicz, to replace Keith Emery Tuesday. Emery had coached at Catholic for two seasons.
