Former college football coach to take reins at Covenant Day School in Matthews
Jordan Langs is the new head football coach at Covenant Day.
Langs will replace Mike Hawks, whose team was 2-8 this season. Covenant Day’s last winning season was in 2022, when the Lions went 8-4 under Pete McSparin. The school has only had one winning season since 2019.
Langs is a former head coach at Indiana Wesleyan and an assistant at Iowa State. Langs coached at Iowa State in 2023 as a running backs coach and special-teams coordinator. He helped the Cyclones reach the 2023 AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
At Indiana-Wesleyan, an NAIA school from Marion, Indiana, Langs was twice named Mid-States Football Association Mideast coach of the year during tenure there from 2016-22.
Langs started the program at Indiana Wesleyan, and his 2022 team finished 11-2 and made the NAIA playoff semifinals. He finished his time there with a 33-15 record and coached eight NAIA All-Americans.
Langs and wife, Lindsay, have four children, all who attend Covenant Day. Lindsay Langs is a teacher in the lower school.
“We are so grateful to start this new chapter as a family,” Langs said. “Covenant Day stands out as a place to pursue your best spiritually, academically, and athletically, and we are excited to help continue that legacy.”
