Meet the best girls’ golfers in the region. Introducing 2025 All-Observer team
Charlotte Catholic’s Elizabeth Guthrie headlines the 2025 All-Observer girls’ golf team.
Charlotte Latin’s Tim Kelly is coach of the year.
The All-Observer team represents the best players in the media company’s coverage area and is open to players from NCHSAA and NCISAA teams in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties.
The team was selected by Observer sportswriters via nominations from coaches.
Guthrie, a sophomore, won the NCHSAA 6A state championship by 12 shots at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe. She also led the Cougars to their first-ever team championship in the sport, with Catholic winning by 30 shots.
In addition to the state championship, Guthrie also won the 6A West Regional, Southern Carolinas conference tournament and the Pinecrest Invitational this season.
Guthrie shot even or better in every round she played for Charlotte Catholic this season.
Kelly led the Hawks to their first NCISAA state title in dramatic fashion.
Charlotte Latin trailed rival Providence Day by two shots on the final hole of regulation at the NCISAA Division I state championships, when senior Kelsey Sciacca chipped in for eagle to tie the score.
Kelly and the Hawks would go on to win their first state title on the first playoff hole.
