Which girls high school basketball teams are the best in NC? Check our rankings

There are six new teams in this week’s North Carolina girls’ high school basketball rankings.

The rankings, sponsored by The Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer of Raleigh, are compiled by longtime high school basketball expert Randall Clark, a co-host of The Observer’s Talking Preps streaming show.

There are also two new No. 1 teams. In the 3A poll, Goldsboro jumped two spots to the top of the rankings. The Cougars have won four straight games, led by seniors Aziyah Boyer (13.7 ppg, 7.4 rpg) and Imari Buckom (11.5, 3.8 apg). And in 1A, Northside-Pinetown (10-1) jumped three spots to the top.

Goldsboro was scheduled to play at home against Midway (4-8) Tuesday.

This week’s new teams are in the 4A rankings (13-0 Clinton and 14-2 North Johnston), the 5A poll (12-2 Eastern Alamance), 6A (11-3 North Iredell), 7A (12-1 Holly Springs) and 8A (13-4 Northwest Guilford).

The rankings are based on play through Monday and do not include games played on Tuesday.
