Thursday’s roundup

The favorites got a bit of a scare, but in the end, there were no surprises Thursday night in the semifinals of the North Piedmont 6A/7A Conference basketball tournament.

Regular-season boys’ champion Mooresville and girls’ champ Lake Norman, each of which went 10-0 in conference play, won their semifinal games and will play Friday night at Davie County High in the finals.

Mooresville surged in the second half for a 64-53 victory over tenacious fourth seed South Iredell, and defending state champion Lake Norman overwhelmed Statesville 73-35 in a girls’ game that was close for a while.

In both of Friday’s finals, it’ll be No. 1 vs. No. 2 – Mooresville against Davie County in the boys’ championship, and Lake Norman facing North Iredell in the girls’ final.
