12 area wrestlers, Parkwood team win girls’ state championships

Eleven Class 7A and 8A wrestlers from the Charlotte and Raleigh areas won girls’ individual wrestling state championships on Friday at the First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro.

They were joined by Parkwood, which had four individual champions of its own and captured the team title in the Class 5A meet.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association conducted meets in five size classes — 8A, 7A, 6A, 5A and 1A-4A.

Hoke County won the 8A team title, with Jack Britt taking 7A, Union Pines winning 6A, and West Stanly capturing the 1A-4A crown.

Millbrook and Mallard Creek were among the top five teams in 8A, as were A.L. Brown, Cardinal Gibbons and Cleveland in 7A.
