Postgame altercation after Ardrey Kell-Myers Park game spills into parking lot
Dozens of people were involved in an altercation near the gymnasium exit following Thursday’s Myers Park at Ardrey Kell high school basketball playoff game.
A video, obtained by The Observer, shows a large number of people near the exit from Ardrey Kell’s gym to the school’s lobby pushing and shoving each other, with at least one Ardrey Kell player being held back and appearing to throw at least one punch.
Another player is later dragged to the ground.
The video shows adults jumping in to separate the two sides and begin to clear the gym.
The second video, shot outside in the parking lot, appears to show two sets of students from each school arguing, when a police officer physically intervenes, pushing the sides apart and yelling at them to go home.
One of the two groups of students continued to verbally curse and harass the other, after the officer’s actions, before the video ends.
It’s not clear which set of students represents which school.
The Observer reached out to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Ardrey Kell principal Susan Nichols for comment. Neither party responded.
Ardrey Kell won Thursday’s game, 68-53, and was scheduled to play a third round playoff game at unbeaten West Forsyth Saturday night.
